Gubernija receives a number of medals at prestigious global beer awards

Gubernija, the oldest brewery in Lithuania, continues to expand its collection of international awards. This year, the products of Lithuania’s oldest brewery were awarded two gold and two silver medals at the prestigious World Beer Awards 2024. Two beers brewed by Gubernija were also recognised as the best in Lithuania.

The World Beer Awards 2024 experts awarded gold medals in the lager category to Gubernija’s Extra Lager and German-Pils Pilsner. Both beers were also recognized as the best in Lithuania in their respective categories.

The silver medals at one of the biggest beer competitions in the world went to Brown Ale and the Non-Alcoholic Extra Lager. The flavour and aroma of Brown Ale is shaped by carefully selected yeasts, which give it a subtle fruity and honey aroma and a rich, malty flavour.

“These prestigious awards confirm that we are on the right track and oblige us to keep on experimenting to create quality products that are appreciated by both beverage enthusiasts and taste professionals. We are particularly pleased with the recognition of our new addition to the range, German-Pils Pilsner. This is proof that we are creating top-quality beverages that are distinguished by experts among other brewers’ products around the world,” notes Mindaugas Bistrickas, Production Director of Gubernija.

Top professionals in the Commission

The World Beer Awards are organised by thedrinksreport.com, the largest online platform for drinks professionals, and the top-ranked beverages are traditionally considered the best in the world in their categories.

Brewing companies from all over the world submit their products to the awards and are judged by the world’s leading beverage tasters, beer industry professionals, trade, journalists and beer sommeliers.

The 2024 jury of nearly 40 members was chaired by Pete Brown, a well-known writer and journalist specializing in food and drink, especially beer and cider. He writes for newspapers and magazines around the world and is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s food program.

In 2009, 2012 and 2016, Mr. Brown was named the best beer reviewer in the UK.

“Professional recognition at this level is a tribute to the entire Gubernija team, who work every day to create, experiment and deliver the highest quality and best tasting beverages to consumers, and who have a prominent place not only on the Lithuanian beer map, but also on the world beer map. We have no doubt that this also contributes to the promotion of our country and the name of Šiauliai,” says M. Bistrickas, Production Director of Gubernija.

The gold medal-winning pale Extra Lager is Gubernija’s flagship beer, with a balanced and light flavor combining the bitterness of Saphir hops with the sweetness of malt. All the best qualities of this beer have been retained in the silver medal-winning non-alcoholic version of Extra. Meanwhile, Gubernija’s new beer, the classic German-style German-Pils Pilsner, is characterized by the subtle bitterness of Herkules hops and the subtle herbal aroma of Saphir and Saaz.

Gubernija’s Non-Alcoholic Brown Ale, the first of its kind in Lithuania to receive the World Beer Awards, has a pure and rich taste with a balanced bitterness from Herkules and Saaz hops. A blend of three malts produces a sweetish aroma of caramel and dried fruit.

The Gubernija brewery is managed by MV GROUP Production, a company belonging to the MV GROUP.
